Mean Old Tom – Maine Beer Co., Portland, ME.
Seasonality: Limited (I believe it was planned to be a one-off, but I know they recently bottled another batch).
Drank: 16.9 oz. bottle, snifter.
Pour: Dark brown (almost black), with a thin, frothy, tan head. Nice lacing.
Aroma: Coffee, roasted malt, with notes of chocolate in the background.
Taste: Coffee, bitter chocolate, and roasted malt. Lingering bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and creamy.
Though it says it’s aged on vanilla, it’s not present anywhere in the taste or aroma. The sweet vanilla would definitely be a nice contrasting component. Tasty, though.
Food pairing: this is definitely a good cheese beer. Something creamy and pungent.
